为了纪念泰坦尼克号沉没100周年，卡梅隆亲自将这一经典电影转制成3D版本将在全球重映，卡梅隆说：“我希望能打造出与3D摄影下同等超质感的效果。如果我要做成3D，我就要达到那样的水平：画面出来就有如身临其境，好像我们在船板上，看到华丽又壮观的景象一样，或者，一起跟杰克与露丝共同经历这场生离死别。”
